Description
Being colorblind, photography can be a challenge sometimes. I do the best I can to capture the scene as my eyes see it. This night was our last night during this specific trip to the Great Smoky Mountains in late October of 2010. It was cold. My wife and I got out of the car and stood in the mountain breeze in this natural gap that separates Tennessee and North Carolina. I just stood there for a moment and closed my eyes. I wanted to feel this as much as I could see it. My wife whispered "Can you see the colors of the sky?" My camera was already set up, but I asked her to capture this moment. I could easily capture the mountains, the layers of the land and the composition of the tree, but I didn't trust these colorblind eyes to capture what I was seeing. She took a few photographs using different settings. I heard her whisper again "It's just so peaceful." I asked "Did you get it?" She just smiled and nodded her head. This is the scene from Newfound Gap in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
