Every morning and evening, a gang of wild Elk take residence in the fields along Oconoluftee Creek. This day, there were dozens of Elk, but just this one bull. He was magnificent with his rack and his size. One hundred fifty years after the last Elk was killed in Tennessee in the mid 1800s, a total of 52 Elk were reintroduced to the national park in 2001 and 2002. They have thrived since then in this place and in Cataloochee.
