This is one of the most heartbreaking images to share. Taken on Halloween Day of 2012, we were celebrating my 40th birthday in Gatlinburg and the surrounding area. The cabin we stayed in that time offered an open deck with this view. About a month later, the house caught fire and burned almost completely. The back deck that offered this amazing view was gone. It was the first cabin we would have considered staying in again, simply becuase we like to go to a different one every visit. We returned several times over the next few years and drove by this place to check on the progress of the rebuild, which was finally completed in the Spring of 2016 and the cabin was offered to rent once again.

Six months later, a fire was stared on the Chimney Tops trail. Winds in excess of 80 miles per hour carried burning embers over a mile and caught several other areas on fire. The wind, combined with burning utility poles caused the electrical lines to fall and start more fires. Over...
