Description
The Big Creek Trail is less populated than most places in the park, but it's beauty is unmatched. From the trailhead, there's horeseback riding and a hike that paralells Big Creek past Midnight Hole, an eight-foot waterfall, and continues beyond Mouse Creek Falls to back country campsites for the serious backpackers. Campsite 37, specifically has been off limits for years due to aggressive bear activity. We're not all about that, so we just stay within the two miles of the trailhead and Mouse Creek Falls.
This particular day was during a rush to go to as many places of the park as we could after a few days of rain. It was late afternoon and it was getting dark. Walking up to the bridge over Big Creek offered an eerie feeling like we were the only ones around for several miles. There was one other car in the parking lot, but it's owner was nowhere to be found. With the mist rising over the creek, and the distant fog, the original name of this was Clarity and Perception, just like in our lives, events close to us are clear, but as they become distant they fade into a mist.
